De R5-CX maakte in de Amerikaanse Worldcup zijn debuut en boekte met Marianne Vos als berijder in Waterloo en Iowa direct een overtuigende zege. De R5-CX heeft veel weg van de prestaties en het ontwerp van de R5, alleen dan wel met een paar belangrijke verschillen. De rijeigenschappen en de fit zijn voor dit model uniek en zijn gebaseerd op de input van Marianne en Wout. De D-vormige zadelpen zorgt niet alleen voor souplesse, maar was ook een speciaal verzoek van Marianne en Wout. Het zadel blijft hiermee na een val namelijk naar voren gericht. Alle kabels zijn weggewerkt in het frame. Daarnaast is hij alleen geschikt voor elektronische aandrijving om gruis en water zo min mogelijk kans te geven om binnen te kunnen dringen. Er is veel ruimte voor nog meer modder.
