Alcide Basso, brother of former world champion Marino Basso, founded Basso Bikes in 1977, starting 3 years earlier in his parents' garage. The company is based in San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Treviso. Production takes place in Deuville in the province of Vicenza. After more than 40 years of successful company history, the bikes are still produced in Italy. Nothing is left to chance at Basso. Everything is meticulously assembled in-house. The Basso family is a known quantity in cycling. Once as a manufacturer, but also through the successes of family members. Ivan Basso won the Giro d'Italia in 2006 as well as in 2010. Basso is constantly working on new innovations. Basso bikes are divided into 5 categories. There are road bikes, gravel bikes, e-bikes, commuter bikes as well as bikes with steel frames.
In the road bike section, you can find several models at once. There is the Basso Diamante, Basso Diamante SV, Basso Astra, Basso Diamante Rim, Basso Venta Disc, Basso Venta Rim and Basso Volta Road. Bikes with the Rim designation are still equipped with rim brakes. The rest of the Basso bikes have modern disc brakes. The road bikes are perfect for making miles on the flat. Furthermore, they have a powerful start and zippiness for challenging switchbacks up to the summit. Competitions and the way to work are each completed with a pleasant ride. On leisurely weekend excursions, the necessary power is ready when you want to step on the gas after all.
The Basso Diamante Disc is with more than 20 years the classic par excellence in the Basso range. It has been adapted again and again to the ravages of time. When new design elements came on the market, they were re-integrated into the maturation process year after year. It is a beautiful intersection between tradition, which has found its way into the now, and innovation. At the same time, Basso always has its eye on the future. The Basso Diamante SV lets you see just that. It's even faster and more versatile. In addition to good aero characteristics, it has a stiff as well as excellent frame shape. The lightweight carbon frame, with Levita integrated carbon handlebars, helps the Basso Diamante SV road bike to its exceptional ride. The arrow-fast aero optics can also be seen. With the Basso Diamante Rim is a cheaper road bike with rim brakes to choose from. Beginners as well as budget-oriented cyclists will have their joy with it. It is a successful all-round package. It is reliable and fast at the same time. On cobblestones, it acts with sufficient comfort in the saddle. The Basso Astra, like the Basso Astra Disc Ultegra, stands for performance and flexible use. Whether for commuting or racing, here you experience a whole new feeling. The Astra is available as a frameset, to configure yourself, as well as in different variants as a complete racer. With the Basso Venta Disc and Basso Venta Rim, premium bikes are available at affordable prices. Reliability coupled with Basso innovations offers an excellent bike that can cope with all circumstances. Once again, the "Made in Italy" craftsmanship comes into play, with attention to detail. The Basso Volta Road Bike is the electronic version of the Basso road bike. It masters steep climbs with ease.
Gravel bikes are available, for example, as Basso Tera Gravel, Basso Palta Gravel, Basso Vega Gravel and Basso Volta Gravel. They are available with frames made of carbon as well as aluminum. If required, they can also be purchased with an extra motor. This is integrated into the frame of the e-bikes. The Basso Terra Gravel is a gravel bike made of both materials. It shines next to the asphalt just as well as on regular roads. Bikepacking becomes a pleasure with it. Mudguards and bike bags are attached as needed. They ensure against dirt and that everything is there what is needed. The Basso Palta enjoys leisurely tours as well as sporty excursions. Brisk rides through nature are experienced in a very unique way. With the right tires, it can be used as a cyclocross bike in no time. With the Basso Vega Gravel adventures are pre-programmed. It is comfortable and flexible to use. Every trip on the gravel guarantees pure riding fun and comfort as well as safety are guaranteed. The motor provides the extra power to finish. The Basso Volta Gravel is based on the Palta and as a support, a motor was still integrated into the frame.
Bikes for everyday use are the Basso Vega Urban as well as the Basso Tera Urban. They have everything that is needed in urban traffic. Here is excellent technology with equipment suitable for everyday use in the Basso product range. The Basso Vega Urban is equipped with luggage rack and lights and has an additional motor. This makes it possible to extend the Sunday shopping trip with pleasure. Bike bags are available for longer tours. The Tera Urban is a commuter bike made of aluminum and carbon. It can also be used as a gravel bike.
When Basso first started producing bikes, they all had steel frames. Only later were materials such as aluminum and carbon used. With the Basso Viper frameset, a classic steel frame is available. Here you can see very well the experience gained over the years. The Viper shines in classic design with current nuances. The latest welding technology is used to make the bike as light as possible. The developers provide the necessary performance and the designers for the chic retro look. Italian craftsmanship at its finest is evident here. The bikes are assembled by hand. They are a timeless blend of tradition and modernity that make for an unforgettable riding experience.
Then under e-bikes, once again, the models with motor are in their own division, apart from the steel version.
The Basso bikes can, via the configure function, be designed according to one's own preferences. There is a selection of different brands and products to choose from. For example, the quality of Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo, Microtech or Continental is relied on. For the remaining components, Basso relies on its own innovations.
The three market leaders Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo are used for the components of the shift groups. Among others, the Shimano Ultegra Di2, Shimano GRX800, Shimano GRX600 and the Shimano 105 are used. Furthermore, the SRAM Rival AXS, SRAM Force AXS, SRAM Apex, Campagnolo Super Records EPS, Campagnolo Ekar, Campagnolo Chorus or the Campagnolo Centaur are used.
The Basso Diamante Disc, Basso Venta Disc or even the Diamante SV Disc are equipped with disc brakes. Basso bikes labeled Rim are equipped with rim brakes. Disc brakes have better braking power than rim brakes. Even in the rain, the braking power of disc brakes is almost identical. The braking power of the rim brakes decreases sharply there.
Saddle as well as seatpost are gladly taken by Basso. Basso also likes to rely on its own development department for handlebars and stem. The Levita integrated handlebar, for example, combines its functionality with improved looks. The Torayca carbon fiber provides the robustness and the good aerodynamics for a streamlined ride. For the ideal seating position, the right tuning of these four components is essential. It makes for a more comfortable and effective ride.
The wheels are often chosen from Microtech, but Campagnolo is also available. For tires, Bassu relies on Continental, among others, such as the Continental Terra Trail and Continental 5000. The Terra Trail feels comfortable on gravel roads and high speeds are achieved with the Continental 5000.
On bassobikes.com, visitors can choose from a wide range of equipment that can be used for the next trip. The items can be conveniently placed in the shopping cart. Different payment methods can be chosen and the order plus shipping costs plus VAT can be placed right away. For bikepacking tours should rather be packed one or two items more, so that nothing stands in the way of the total experience. With a road bike is not really needed except water bottle and helmet more.
Whether it's a road bike, gravel bike or a bike for commuting, it's always important to keep frame size and intended use in mind. Quick decisions all too often lead to less pleasant experiences down the road.
