Wenn es ein Paradebeispiel für moderne Tourenbikes gäbe, wäre es wohl das Canyon Neuron AL 9.9 LTD. Mit 120 mm Federweg vorne und "nur" 110 mm hinten kommt es auf dem Papier mit viel Understatement daher. Doch auf den Trails entpuppt es sich als Wolf im Schafspelz und beweist: Federweg ist nicht alles, gute Trail-Bikes machen auch mit dezentem Hub enorm Spaß. Das Fahrwerk bügelt dank sensiblen Ansprechverhaltens souverän über Wurzelteppiche und mittelgroße Felsbrocken. Der Hinterbau und die hochwertige Federgabel arbeiten dabei sehr harmonisch. Dank der neutralen, aufrechten Sitzposition hat man das Bike in jeder Situation gut im Griff. Nur auf losem Schotter wirkt es wegen des kurzen Oberrohrs etwas unpräzise, fast schwammig. Ansonsten ist es spritzig und animiert auch zu kleineren Sprüngen. Auf anspruchsvollen Trails lässt es sich dank seiner Wendigkeit problemlos um Hindernisse zirkeln. Und auch enge Spitzkehren verlieren mit dem Neuron ihren Schrecken. Erst auf sehr ruppigem Untergrund bei gleichzeitig hohem Tempo gerät das Bike an seine Grenzen und wird unruhig. Bergauf entpuppt es sich als Spitzenkletterer: Es setzt jede Kurbelumdrehung effizient in Vortrieb um. Selbst an steilen Rampen verliert das Vorderrad nicht den Bodenkontakt, womit das Neuron zu den besten Kletterern zählte.
