If there was a prime example of a modern touring bike, it would probably be the Canyon Neuron AL 9.9 LTD. With 120 mm travel at the front and "only" 110 mm at the rear, it looks very understated on paper. But on the trails it turns out to be a wolf in sheep's clothing and proves it: Suspension travel isn't everything, good trail bikes are also enormous fun with decent travel. Thanks to its sensitive responsiveness, the suspension irons over root carpets and medium-sized boulders with ease. The rear suspension and the high-quality suspension fork work very harmoniously. Thanks to the neutral, upright riding position, you have the bike well under control in every situation. Only on loose gravel does it feel a little imprecise, almost spongy, due to the short top tube. Otherwise, it is lively and encourages smaller jumps. Thanks to its maneuverability, it is easy to maneuver around obstacles on challenging trails. And even tight hairpin bends lose their terror with the Neuron. Only on very rough surfaces at high speeds does the bike reach its limits and become unsteady. Uphill, it turns out to be a top climber: it efficiently converts every turn of the cranks into propulsion. Even on steep ramps, the front wheel doesn't lose contact with the ground, making the Neuron one of the best climbers.
