Fausto Coppi : Als fünfmaliger Meister des Giro d'Italia (1940, 1947, 1949, 1952 und 1953) und zweifacher Gewinner der Tour de France (1949 und 1952) war er 1949 der erste der wenigen Fahrer in der Geschichte, der dazu in der Lage war Er gewann beide Wettbewerbe in derselben Saison und wiederholte dieses Kunststück 1952. Im Laufe seiner sportlichen Karriere gewann er 122 Rennen.Er war Weltmeister im Straßenradfahren (1953) und stellte den Weltrekord für eine Stunde auf (1942).

Er gilt als einer der größten Radfahrer aller Zeiten.
