The reason is simple: With the addition of the name "EVO", the Specialized Epic Expert EVO turns from a second hunter into a trail rocket. As befits a bike of this type, the € 5,599 Epic Expert EVO also relies on a lightweight carbon frame (the same as the non-EVO), 29" wheels and 100 mm travel at the rear. Sounds like a racing machine so far. However, the EVO also has a dropper post, 120 mm suspension fork and robust tires, bringing its total weight to 12.06 kg. We found out whether this explosive mix makes for an epic riding experience on steep ramps, long tours, alpine single trails and on a trip to the flow trails of the Bike Republic-Sölden.
Conclusion
The Specialized Epic Expert EVO impresses with the very direct handling and riding fun of a firm trail bike. Nevertheless, it delivers the efficiency and hunger for propulsion of a cross-country racing machine, but with the Brain 2.0 damping system it deliberately avoids excessive comfort. If you don't actually have a chance of winning Olympic gold or are at least competing in a national race series, the Specialized Epic Expert EVO is a much better choice than a race bike.
Otherwise, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
