Orbea gravel bike - Pure adventure with the Orbea Terra
The history of Orbea began well over 100 years ago in Spain and what started out as a weapons manufacturer gradually became a successful bicycle producer worldwide from the 1930s onwards.
From bikepacking to crossing the Alps, a lot is possible with the Orbea Terra. It is very flexible to use and a perfect mix of road bike and mountain bike without being just a modified version of one of these types of bikes. It achieves high speeds when challenged on asphalt, but convinces with the best handling when going over rough terrain. The asymmetric chainstays allow the bike to be fitted with many different groupsets. This had often been a problem and still is with many of the competition's bikes. If you opted for a 2-speed crank, you often had to accept a loss of tyre clearance. With the option to choose between different wheels, you can choose tyres depending on the terrain. Narrower tyres are the better option if you mostly ride on the road in road bike mode and wide tyres if the terrain is more difficult and where the regular road bike reaches its limits. This means that there are no longer many limits on your excursions and you can concentrate fully on the ride and the surroundings, which further enhances the riding experience. Everyone knows the experience of borrowing a road bike on holiday and the tremors that come with it when you want to go off-road for a while. Will the bike keep me on the saddle during certain sections or will the tyres survive on a slightly grainy surface? You will definitely be spared such questions with the Terra.
The Orbea Terra also has the LOCKR storage compartment on the down tube, which is cleverly placed behind the bottle cage. There you can stow your repair kit, change of shirt and a few snacks or other souvenirs without needing an extra bag, which can be an advantage on shorter tours. Derailleurs & brakes
When it comes to groupsets, which include the crank, rear derailleur, cassette and front derailleur, the Shimano GRX is a popular choice. The Shimano GRX can also be combined with other series, such as the Shimano Tiagra cassette and the Shimano GRX crank and front derailleur. Furthermore, the SRAM Force eTap AXS is also used, which is an electronic shifting group. Due to the above-mentioned change in the shape of the chainstays, the smallest chainring can be a blade with up to 34 teeth. The new Orbea Terra is equipped throughout with the more efficient disc brakes, which now deliver a lot more power than the rim brakes.
Shocks
If required, the Orbea Terra OMR fork can be replaced with a Gravel suspension fork for extra riding comfort, such as on the Cannondale Topstone Carbon 2 Lefty, where a Cannondale proprietary suspension fork is mounted on the left side of the wheel on one side.
Saddle / Seatpost & Handlebar / Wheels
For the saddle, the Prologo Akero and the Fizik Aliante R5 are often used, while the seatpost is made from Cannondale's own products, such as the OC XP10 Performance Carbon and OC2 Carbon.
The head tube is connected to the stem and handlebar and the latter two are mostly from the Orbea OC product range as well.
For the wheelset, Orbea Wheels with Shimano hubs or Fulcrum Rapid Red wheels are used. For tyres, Pirelli and Vittoria are popular choices, such as the Vittoria Terreno Dry Gravel, Tubeless or the Pirelli Cinturato.
